Architecture of Night(24)

/ About the project

Architecture of Night is a monochrome worldbuilding study in which the city is not a backdrop but the dominant force.

I used Midjourney to build a nocturnal metropolis from impossible towers, industrial transit systems, suspended crowds and structures large enough to alter the skyline. Hard white light, crushed blacks and film grain turn each frame into a fragment of the same oppressive urban mythology.

Human figures remain deliberately small. Their scale gives the architecture its emotional weight: awe, isolation and the sense of being trapped inside a machine that never reaches morning.

Low-angle monochrome view of an immense illuminated tower rising into a black night sky.

The City as Antagonist

The visual system is built from extremes: near-black structures, isolated white light, deep perspective and architecture that overwhelms the frame. Rather than designing a complete city map, I developed a sequence of spaces that imply one vast and inescapable nocturnal machine.

A solitary figure stands beside a train inside a colossal circular industrial tunnel.
A crowd crosses a suspended bridge in silhouette against a bright opening in a cavernous dark structure.

Scale Without Escape

People appear only as silhouettes, crowds or distant witnesses. That choice turns scale into narrative: the tunnel feels endless, the bridge precarious and the hovering structure impossible to understand from the ground. The black-and-white treatment removes distraction and leaves only light, mass and unease.

A dark disc-shaped megastructure descends over a monochrome city beneath storm clouds.
