/ About the project

A quiet surrealist film about two figures beneath a chandelier in an empty field, looking towards something the frame never reveals.

I made Look Up to test how little dialogue a scene could hold before the image had to carry the emotional weight. The suspended chandelier, open landscape and deliberate negative space let the act of looking up suggest loss, longing and the hope that someone might still be there.

I began with Scott Mutter’s photograph Chandelier as a visual reference, then developed the scene and its two characters in Midjourney. GPT Image 2 helped me establish consistent character references and refine the final composition before I carried the still into motion with Seedance. The unused frames and character sheet shown here document how the idea narrowed from a wider visual study into one restrained final sequence.

Starting with Scott Mutter’s Chandelier

Scott Mutter’s Chandelier established the project’s starting contradiction: a domestic object suspended in an open, inhospitable sky. I used the photograph as inspiration rather than a shot to reproduce, carrying its improbable scale and upward pull into a new scene built around two people and the distance between them.

Building the Scene Before Motion

Midjourney gave me several ways to stage the encounter before I committed to the final frame. These two unused stills helped test the chandelier’s scale, the figures’ positions and how much empty landscape the scene could hold without losing its emotional focus.

Using Character Sheets to Hold the Two Figures Together

Once the composition was set, I used GPT Image 2 to build a shared character sheet for the younger and older figures. Full-length, profile and close portrait views gave the move into Seedance a clearer reference for faces, clothing and proportion, while leaving the final performance deliberately spare.
