No Mind Wasted(07)

/ About the project

A sci-fi mystery trailer about chrome-clad agents who were never meant to feel.

I developed No Mind Wasted for the Runway Big Pitch Contest, setting the story inside Valguard: a society where technological power presents itself as ceremony, hierarchy and ritual. At its centre is a Council built to preserve order, an unseen founder and a group of agents designed to serve without emotion. When signs of feeling begin to surface, the system starts to fracture.

I wrote the concept, story and visual direction, then produced the final trailer in Runway. Midjourney established the characters and environments, while GPT Image 2 helped me turn isolated stills into a more coherent production system through character sheets, annotated floor plans and architectural studies. That supplementary work shaped the Council chamber, the capital and the class structure behind the film without forcing the trailer to explain the whole world.

Using Character Sheets to Keep the Council Consistent

Simple scenes could hold together from one reference, but the wider film needed a stronger system. I used a detailed character-sheet to establish costume, profile and facial views before moving characters into new shots. The sheet became a practical continuity reference rather than a piece of final artwork.

Replacing Storyboards with an Annotated Floor Plan

Conventional storyboards were not giving me enough consistency inside the Council chamber. I paired the character references with an annotated floor plan instead, fixing the room’s curved layout, seating, sight lines and central dais before generating the scene. That combination produced a more dependable spatial reference for the final chamber shots.

Building Valguard’s Architectural Language

The capital began with one Midjourney image and expanded through repeated analysis in GPT Image 2. I annotated the city, compared architectural references and tested how its ceremonial geometry could extend from the Council chamber into streets, monuments and public space. Étienne-Louis Boullée and New Delhi were important reference points for scale and civic order.

Defining the Council and the Class System

Valguard’s hierarchy needed to feel visible before anyone explained it. I developed the seven-seat Council and a class system expressed through names, clothing, symbols and social pattern. These boards were supplementary worldbuilding, but they helped every character and institution feel part of the same controlled society.
