The Fourth Shade(03)

/ About the project

The Fourth Shade is an AI fantasy short created with Miki Ovshievich for the fal × Sequoia 72-Hour Video Hackathon, where it was selected as a finalist.

In a realm where every House draws power from a sacred Shade, the shadeless Thins mine colours they can never wield. Three Houses hold a fragile balance until a whisper spreads: the lost Fourth Shade has returned.

Built as a collaboration under a 72-hour deadline, the film focused on establishing a complete mythology quickly: distinct factions, a readable power structure and a cinematic world that could support a larger story. fal later featured the finished film.

A World Built Around Colour

Every House draws power from a sacred Shade, while the shadeless Thins mine colours they can never use. The story begins with three Houses holding a fragile balance, then disrupts it with a single rumour: the lost Fourth Shade has returned.

Collaboration Under a 72-Hour Deadline

Miki Ovshievich and I developed the film for the fal × Sequoia 72-Hour Video Hackathon. The constraint forced us to make the world legible quickly—clear factions, a strong visual mythology and just enough story to suggest a much larger realm beyond the frame.

From Finalist to fal Feature

The Fourth Shade was selected as a hackathon finalist and later featured by fal. That recognition made the project more than a sprint: it became a compact proof of how collaborative AI filmmaking can establish a distinct fantasy world on an extremely compressed production schedule.
